Anwar Sheluchin awarded The Brooke and Irene Townsend Scholarship!

PhD Candidate Anwar Sheluchin has been awarded the Brooke and Irene Townsend Scholarship. Established in 2022 through the estate of Brooke Townsend ’57, in honour of Brooke and his wife Irene ’57, this scholarship recognizes graduate students who demonstrate academic excellence and innovative research.
Anwar’s research explores the intersection of technology, politics, and finance, with a focus on the institutional and political dynamics of digital currency adoption. As a Doctoral Fellow at the Digital Society Lab, she leads multiple projects examining public attitudes toward digital currencies. Most recently, she launched CryptoCommons.ca, a publicly accessible database that tracks and categorizes the positions of Canadian politicians on digital currencies.
She is currently collaborating with Dr. Adrienne Davidson on an IDG-funded project analyzing policy innovation in federal systems across emerging policy fields. Previously, she researched global financial governance under the supervision of Dr. Tony Porter.
Anwar’s work has been published in Canadian Public Policy and Politics & Gender, along with book chapters in Canada and Great Power Competition and the Handbook of Business and Public Policy. She has also contributed articles to The Conversation and written op-eds for the Toronto Star and Globe and Mail.
Anwar is very grateful and honoured to be recognized for her research.
