McMaster Political Science PhD Graduate Appointed CEO of the Jordan Media Institute

The Department of Political Science congratulates Dr. Dana S. Shuqom (PhD 2024) on her appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Jordan Media Institute (JMI), effective November 1, 2025.

Dr. Shuqom completed her PhD in Political Science at McMaster University. Her dissertation on tourism policy as a tool of political communication and public diplomacy was nominated by the department for the Canadian Political Science Association’s Vincent Lemieux Award.

During her time at McMaster, she served as the graduate students’ representative on the University Budget Committee, the University Planning Committee, and on the VP Administration & Finance Search Committee.

Dr. Shuqom has built an accomplished career at the intersection of education, development, and public policy, including leadership and consulting roles with AMIDEAST Jordan, the Office of HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal of Jordan, and UN Women.

In her new role, Dr. Shuqom will lead JMI in raising standards of journalistic practice, advancing media and information literacy and digital-media skills, and promoting professional development across Jordan and the wider Arab region.
