Political Science PhD student, Anwar Mohammed, recently published an op-ed on the privacy risks associated with a national digital currency. The article, A national digital currency has serious privacy implications, discusses the Bank of Canada’s experimentation with private distributed ledger technology. The proposed digital currency would provide the Bank with the ability to collect more information on Canadian consumers than ever before – asserting a new level of state surveillance in the digital economy.
