PhD Candidate Aye Lei Tun awarded the SEAREG pre-dissertation fellowship!
Aye Lei Tun, a third year PhD candidate from Political Science has received the coveted pre-dissertation fellowship from SEAREG! Aye Lei’s dissertation, “Transnational Network and Resilience of Civil Society Organizations in Myanmar and Thailand” intends to explain why some civil society organizations remain resilient despite state repression in authoritarian regimes. The SEAREG fellowship will help to support her five-month fieldwork in Thailand where she will collect data and conduct interviews with six women based CSOs in Myanmar and Thailand. Her plan is to collect primary data to develop her theory on how digital technologies, ideas, and funding flow between the local CSOs and international organizations despite the restrictive and under-resourced conditions.
Congratulations Aye Lei, we wish you all success in your fieldwork!
SEAREG is a Southeast Asia Research Group based in Duke Sanford University, established to promote and nurture social scientists working on Southeast Asian Politics. For more on the pre-dissertation fellowship, click here.
